What Do You Mean? 來英國的幾個不習慣

掐指一算，再過個９天就剛好是來到英國的整整的第一個月了，途中經歷了感冒、大排長榮的學籍註冊、新生訓練以及各種融入新環境的挑戰。不過還好，漸漸的生活也越來越上軌道了:)
但是在這個過程中，有件事真的是需要時間來慢慢消化阿．．．
是甚麼事呢？其實就是英國人為什麼這麼喜歡說Cheers以及sorry呢?
§ What do you mean by saying CHEERS?
Cheers不是要乾杯時才說的嗎? xD 還記得一降落英國曼徹斯特機場，在機場裡的商店結帳時第一次聽到店員說Cheers時還真愣了一下。心想: 「Cheers? What for? hahahha」
後來還真的上網查了下牛津大辭典看看cheers的定義哈哈。
所以，根據Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary，它給了Cheers三種定義:
1. a word that people say to each other as they lift up their glasses to drink
(大家舉杯喝酒時使用的單辭)
***是不是!! 普通人都會想到這個吧哈哈***
2. (British English, informal) thank you (英式英語用來表達感謝的非正式用語)
‘Have another biscuit.’ ‘Cheers.’
3. (British English, informal) good bye (英式英語用來表達再見的非正式用語)
Cheers then. See you later. ***筆記筆記!! 這個真的超級超級常聽到的!!!!****
所以，現在我也正在慢慢練習偶爾用幾個cheers來取代thanks，不過目前講起來連自己都會覺得怎麼怪怪的哈哈哈。
§ What do you mean by saying Sorry?
Sorry but not sorry? 來英國的第二個不習慣就是為什麼天天都在說對不起阿?
真的是除了cheers以外，英國人天天都在道歉．．．不過其實就如英國廣播公司BBC在他們網站上寫的一篇標題為 "Ten Things Brits Say...And What Americans Think We Mean"指出:
What we say: “Sorry” What Americans hear: “I sincerely apologize.” Saying sorry is like a national tic, which means we Brits rarely use the word to convey a heartfelt apology. This is baffling to Americans who will, on occasion, reply with something like, “Why, exactly, are you sorry?” “I’m not,” you’ll say, confused. “Sorry.”
所以說阿，說sorry對英國人來說就好比是呼吸一樣，很自然地不管有沒有真的要道歉都會說sorry，不過常常他們的意思也不過就是Excuse me.
但是其實多說也不會錯啦! 所以來英國沒事多說Sorry，多說Sorry沒事。
以上這兩個小小的不習慣其實真的在慢慢融入當地生活後都會變成很自動從大腦產出的說話模式，不過一開始真的有點難適應，所以說趁大家來英國前先練一下多說Cheers跟Sorry吧!
